Prayer: Forgiving Others

by | Jan 17, 2024 | Prayers

Heavenly Father, I come to You with a wounded heart, asking for Your help to forgive someone who has deeply hurt me. I know Your Word calls me to forgive, but I also know I cannot do this in my own strength. I need Your grace to walk in obedience, even when it feels difficult.

Jesus, You taught that forgiveness matters deeply to You. In Matthew 6:14-15, You remind us that forgiving others reflects the forgiveness we ourselves have received. Help me release the resentment I’ve been holding onto, not out of pressure or fear, but out of gratitude for the mercy You’ve shown me.

Lord, You know the struggle within my heart. Your Word in Colossians 3:13 calls me to forgive as You have forgiven me. I ask You to shape my heart to reflect Yours. Teach me how to extend grace even when it feels undeserved, just as You have done for me.

Your Word also tells me to let go of bitterness, anger, and malice, and to walk in kindness and compassion. I confess that these things have tried to take root in me. Please cleanse my heart and replace them with humility, patience, and love.

Father, I understand that forgiveness is not excusing wrongdoing, but releasing the burden into Your hands. I trust that You are my strength, and that through You I can do what feels impossible. As I choose to forgive, I ask You to bring healing and freedom to my heart.

You are the God who blots out sin and remembers it no more. Help me follow Your example, forgiving not just with my words, but with my heart. Let this forgiveness be an act of worship and trust in You.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
