Did I Pray?
Lyrics
Did I Pray?
Verse 1
Before I stepped into the morning light
Before I chose my words, before the fight
Did I slow my heart, did I call Your name
Or did I walk ahead like I’m holding the reins
I know the weight this world can bring
I know how loud my worries seem
But peace was waiting if I stayed
If I had stopped and prayed
Chorus
Did I think to pray
Before I moved my feet today
Did I bring it all to You
Or try to make it through my way
When the night feels long
And the road feels strange
I don’t have to do it alone
If I stop and pray
Verse 2
When temptation whispered soft and slow
When my pride said, You already know
Did I lean on grace or on my will
Did I trust Your Spirit to lead me still
When anger tried to take my voice
And forgiveness felt too hard a choice
Was I strong enough to say
Lord, help me pray
Bridge
When the trials hit like heavy rain
When sorrow pressed my soul with pain
You were near, You always stay
But I forget You’re just one breath away
You’re my shelter in the storm
You’re my strength when hope feels worn
I don’t have to be afraid
If only I stop and pray

Reflection
Prayer is often the first thing we mean to do and the easiest thing to forget. Life moves quickly. Responsibilities stack up. Emotions rise. Before we realize it, we are already reacting instead of resting.
Did I Pray? is a quiet pause in the middle of all that motion. It is not a song of accusation, but a gentle heart check. Before speaking. Before deciding. Before carrying the weight alone. Did I stop and bring it to God?
The original hymn, Did You Think to Pray?, asked believers to consider prayer as a daily discipline. This modern reflection turns the question inward. Prayer is not about perfect words or spiritual performance. It is about remembering that God is near, attentive, and willing to carry what we were never meant to hold on our own.
When temptation whispers, when anger rises, when sorrow presses in, prayer becomes the place where strength is renewed and perspective is restored. Not because circumstances immediately change, but because our hearts do.
Peace was never far away. Sometimes it was just one prayer away.
Closing Scripture & Prayer
“You are near, Lord; all your commands are true.”
– Psalm 119:151Father, help us remember to pause and pray. Before we move, before we speak, before we try to handle life in our own strength, draw our hearts back to You. Teach us to bring every fear, every decision, and every burden into Your presence. Thank You for being near, faithful, and always ready to listen. Amen.
